Context of i-Images
My big idea represented here with these images is that student engagement and motivation is needed in order to build a deeper understanding of mathematics. I chose this idea because many of my students last year exhibited a lack of engagement and motivation which turned out often times to be caused by their inability to understand the concepts and apply them in various situations. There are many possible reasons for this but I believe that if I focus on activities to increase their engagement with the content, help them to take ownership of their learning, and work to develop perseverance through problem-solving, then students will develop a deeper understanding of mathematics. This in turn will remove math as a stumbling block to achieving their dreams in the future. These pictures were chosen because the 1st one illustrates that students need to build bridges between their current understanding and what they need to learn. Picture 2 illustrates that deep understanding helps to build foundations that eventually will support all the structures that will be built in their lives in the future. Picture 3 shows that students must struggle with problems themselves and persevere in order to develop a better understandings of the content. These images were created using the app, Aviary, that is for the Surface Pro, Android, and iOS and the images were all pictures that I took on a visit to the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. |
